Gift Ideas
In the comments of my last post, Momx2 (soon to be x3) gave me a great idea. She suggested a small gift for the labor and delivery nurses that will be caring for me when the little guy decides to arrive. I love this idea, simply because I love to give gifts and I love to feel put together and prepared. Has anyone done this or thought about doing this? Can anyone give me any unique, creative or thoughtful ideas? Are there any readers who are nurses? What would you love to get from a patient? Any help would be much appreciated. Anyone just feeling creative?

Check out Kelly's Korner blog (there is a link on my sidebar). She is having her baby girl this week and the stuff she made for the hospital is amazing!!
Although I am not there yet in the realm of having kids, one of my best friends is a labor nurse. :) She had the best ideas when I asked her... First off, they love LOVE personalized notes, and if you send letters to the nurse managers- the positive note goes in their file. (This you would probably have to do afterwards, though.)
In terms of things you can arrive with, they are perpetually starving (she thought a basket of bagels and healthy treats would be awesome) and always on their feet. Her favorite present has been a gift card for a pedicure and foot massage at a local spa. Their feet get really sore on the job, but if they aren't feet people- they could use it for a nice manicure.
I will have to remember these ideas for when the time is right and thinking of you in these final weeks! :)
My daughter was born about a month ago, and I gave the nurses who took extra special care of us a gift. I bought a few boxes of some specialty chocolates from a shoppe in our town. The nurses were extremely appreciative- it was just a small token to show how helpful they were to me and the little one.
kelly @ kellyskornerblog.com is doing that when her sweetie harper arrives, which is any day now! go over to her blog & take a look @ this post: http://www.kellyskornerblog.com/2009/01/starting-off-2009-with-bunch-of.html. she also made cookies & pretzel/chocolate sticks for visitors...that's in a more recent post. i just love her...can you tell she's one of my (many) bloggy mama role models? =)
Have you ever read Kelly's Korner ... read this post

she is due any day now and she wrapped up the cutest cookies to give to give out! Maybe her blog will help :)
Well I do declare- can you send me another invite- I can't get into your blog :)
Seaside prep- Thanks for asking your nurse friends!!! that was so nice of you!
I have been thinking about this too! I was thinking of doing individual gift bags, but then I thought of maybe sending one of those yummy fruit arrangements from edible creations.
I'm a nurse and, honestly, food is definitely what goes over best. It can be shared among the whole staff and, while working a 12 hr shift, any kind of treat is a joy!! You really don't have to go above and beyone with this if you don't have the time/energy. A veggie platter, cookies, brownies, coffee and muffins, really truly anything is appreciated!
Also, most hospitals will send a survey in the mail after you are a patient there. Filling out the survey, and mentioning nurses specific nurses, is SO wonderful. At our hospital (in Chi) our name gets announced in a hospital wide email and, like seaside prep mentioned, it goes in our file for our yearly review.
I am big on giving the Caspari kleenex with cute notepads to anyone and everyone. I put them in small celophane bags and dress it up with a darling grosgrain ribbon. They are always a HUGE hit no matter what the ocassion and they are not impossible, or bank breaking. If you want to add a little something else to it I would say a giftcard would do the trick!
I was just about to recommend Kelly's blog, but Well I Do Declare beat me to it! I think it's amazing if you're able to deal with gifts while busy giving birth. Good luck :).
They all want starbucks gift cards!!! Boring but true!!!
Interesting text & very cute picture. You have a nice blog. Keep it up!
