How does your Garden Grow?

How did everyone learn how to care for their yards and all the different plants in them? I have a yard full of who knows what- (all I know is that they are perennials)- and I have no idea what to do now that spring has sprung! Any tips on where to look or who to call?

Also- couldn't resist posting a few pictures of H- trying on my sunglasses- ok maybe I helped.

Gardening for dummies! It'll get you started! Also check to see if your library carries any good gardening books.

I would highly recommend doing a few containers of fresh herbs in a sunny locale in your yard. It's not costly and the results are SO worth it. Basil, rosemary, parsley, and cilantro seem to be the most often used in recipes and in my life :) You can throw in some miracle grow with the potting soil and your pesto will be amazing at the end of the summer. If you like bruschetta, caprese salad, or homemade spaghetti sauce, tomatoes are relatively easy to grow (use a climber thing-y in the pot) and so much better than the store bought. You can buy regular or heirloom tomatoes at your local garden center for relatively cheap. My grandmother has hers in full sun with her herbs, so I would suggest that. We're going to get our pots and herbs next weekend to start our container garden!

GL and have fun!

Adorable photos of Mr. H!

My advice is to head to Chalet in Wilmette. You might not want to *buy* all your plants there as they are pricey, but they are great at answering questions and they have a lot of classes you can take on gardening. It's a real gem of the North Shore.

Trial and error is the motto of gardening!
